Treatment for Co-Occurring Disorders
Treatment for Co-Occurring Disorders
The Discovery House offers special treatment programs at our long term treatment centers for addiction for individuals requiring specific types of assistance. Our treatment for co-occurring disorders helps residents who suffer from both a substance abuse addiction and a mental health disorder.
Mental health disorders and substance abuse commonly go hand in hand. Either disorder can occur first, but often the result of one condition is the development of the other. Someone who suffers from mental illness like depression or an anxiety disorder may over time begin to self-¬medicate in order to ease their mind. Before long, these individuals begin to depend on the substance in order to manage their mental health disease, and they quickly find themselves addicted.
Other individuals who have a history of drug addiction find that they also develop a mental health disorder. Whether the drug or alcohol abuse causes mental illness or if some individuals are more prone to both is often unknown, but the result is clear; the person needs help from a dual diagnosis program.
Integrated Treatment for Co-Occurring Disorders
Someone with addiction and a mental health disorder needs specialized treatment at a drug alcohol treatment center that addresses both issues in order to recover completely, preferably integrated treatment for co-occurring disorders. In some cases, we monitor medication to manage mental health disorders such as bipolar disorder or obsessive-compulsive disorder. The resident will also need intensive therapy in our luxury rehab facilities to learn how to manage the emotional pain of a mental health disorder without turning to drugs or alcohol.
Without help at one of the best co-occurring treatment centers, such as The Discovery House, co-occurring disorders can lead to:
- A decline in mental cognitive function
- A decline in social acceptance
- A decline in overall health
The Discovery House’s addiction treatment programs help treat both sides of the addiction problem. We use integrated treatment for co-occurring disorders in order to effectively meet all the individual’s underlying issues. Our therapists conduct a thorough bio-psych-social assessment on residents before they begin treatment for co-occurring disorders and then design their rehab around the resident’s needs. Those with a dual diagnosis will be enrolled in a treatment for co-occurring disorders plan that will integrate addiction therapy with mental health treatment.
Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment
At The Discovery House, we offer integrated treatment for co-occurring disorders and mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, grief/loss, bipolar disorder, secondary eating issues, personality disorders, mood disorders, and psychological trauma. Our program integrates both the treatment for addiction and the treatment for the mental disorder so that the resident can heal every aspect of their life and continue on to complete sobriety for long term recovery. We offer drug rehab, alcohol rehab, treatment for co-occurring disorders, residential treatment, and outpatient therapy. We use methods such as the 12 steps, nutrition and addiction programs, and a family program to help heal the entire individual.
