Growing up as the famous son of George Hamilton and Alana Stewart wasn’t easy for Ashley Hamilton.
The 40-year-old has survived his two failed marriages, a heroin addiction and struggles with anorexia and bulimia. Today, Ashley is eight years sober, an addiction coach, and living a different life, as seen on the new E! reality show, Stewarts & Hamiltons.
On the show’s August 9 episode, Hamilton discovered that his model girlfriend, Ali Stepka, was smoking marijuana outside his recording studio. Afraid of putting his own sobriety and that of some of his band members at risk, he explained to Stepka and his parents why he can’t be around people who are using drugs.
“I went through a hard time with drugs and alcohol and I’ve been to rehab many times,” Hamilton says of his current sobriety. “I was walking down the streets and people were moving out of the way because they thought I was a homeless person. That’s how bad it got for me. I love Ali, but when there’s something like that around and I used to do it a lot, it scares me.”
When Stepka asked Hamilton if their relationship was dependent on her not smoking cannabis, he replied that as much as he loves her, he can’t put his hard-earned sobriety in jeopardy. Stepka had to make a choice, whether to give up her vices or end their relationship. In the end, she agreed not to do drugs.
The Discovery House would like to congratulate Ashley Hamilton on his commitment to abstinence. Choosing a clean and sober life rather than one clouded by drugs or alcohol is not a simple decision nor is it easy for the addict to achieve and sustain.
